Non-legal books that I find interesting, useful, or enjoyable. Some academic, some not. (NB: Links are for convenience only. I am not recommending book stores)
The Law in Classical Athens Douglas McDowell Probably the easiest introduction to Athenian law. It was certainly mine.
The Shape of Athenian Law S. C. Todd. The best all purpose book on Athenian law that I’m aware of. A bit harder to get your head around than McDowell.
The World of Prometheus: The Politics of Punishing in Democratic Athens Danielle Allen. For me, gets much more into the heart of the emotions behind punishment in Athenian law.
Looking for Alibrandi Melina Marchetta A coming of age story. A 17 year old Italian-Australian finds love and family, experiences loss, and discovers more about who she is in her final year of school. This is probably my favourite book of all time, despite it being for young adults, and it resonates with and haunts me to this day, despite the fact I first read it over 20 years ago.
